(2)美国大学生活
托福听力部分是为了测试应试者的听力理解能力，从而得知应试者是否有足够的语言能力在美国学习生活，所以托福听力的对话内容，场景都是关于在美国大学里的生活。所以对美国大学的学习和生活的初步了解有助于理解和熟悉听力的内容，对真正考试中的对话内容进行猜测，从而提高听力部分的分数。
初到美国
一般说来，新到的留学生必须在真正开课的前一周内到系里报道，这是系里有个international advisor将给你关于选课，选专业住宿等方面的指导，并且递给你一大摞学习生活方面的介绍的资料，甚至一张本校的地图。然后让你参加一个由 international students office举行的international students orientation，内容都是关于美国大学的生活指导，如留学生在入学后的9个月内不能在校外打工，收入要上税等，还有关于枪支泛滥，大学生活的安全等问题。
关于注册(registration)
美国大学新生和学期前都要自己选课(或系里的advisor指导选课)，然后将选好的课表在规定的时间里(通常是一周内)自己拿到registration office去register。由于全校的学生都集中在这段时间里注册，所以通常人都很多，排队便是常有的事。注册的程序这点和国内的大学很不一样，国内大学的做法通常是到系里去注册，而且没有选课的自由(除了极少的选修课外)。
